This type of installation places the software on a local hard drive and is user-specific. Working Directories may be shared through a network. This option requires approximately 30MB of hard drive space (for software only, Jobs and Masters will require additional space). System Administrators see Files Installed by SpecsIntact.
This installation copies the software to a network server directory that is accessible to all workstations using SpecsIntact. Individual workstation installations must then be performed through the network server. This option requires approximately 56MB of hard drive space on the server, in addition to 16KB hard drive space on each workstation. This space requirement is for software only, Jobs and Masters will require additional space.
It is necessary to have access to different files at different times within the Working Directory. Therefore, the network administrator should assign each network user the following rights to the \SISGML (or name selected during installation) folder:
The Templates folder requires the same rights and privileges listed above for the Working Directory to accommodate the Templates and Comment Archive (1620) folders. For a Local or Workstation installation, the Templates folder is initially installed to the Software Directory. As soon as you run SpecsIntact and establish the default Working Directory, the Template folder will be moved to the default Working Directory.
Installing to a server only copies the SpecsIntact and Setup software to a network location. No registry settings are altered, no .ini files are created, and no .dll files are over-written. System Administrators see Files Installed by SpecsIntact for files affecting the workstations.
If a previous installation is detected during the network installation, a comparison is made between the files that exist in that directory and the files being installed. If Setup determines that essential files have been modified during the new installation, you will receive a warning message indicating that you need to perform a new installation on the workstations as well. If you do not receive this warning, no workstation installation is necessary.
After completing the Network Server Installation, icons and system files are placed on workstations from the network server. This option requires approximately 16KBs of hard drive space on each workstation. This space requirement is for software only, and Jobs will require additional space.
Check to make sure your computer system meets the hardware and software requirements.
If you are uncertain which type of installation will meet your needs, see Installation Considerations.
