The SpecsIntact Editor is specifically designed for editing facility project specifications. It uses many functions common to other Windows-based programs, with additional customized editing features accessible from it's menus, toolbarToolbars assists the user in preparing and editing specifications by allowing quick access to commonly used commands. If you place your mouse pointer over any toolbar button, you will see a tool tip telling you the command associated with that button. and tagsbarThe Tagsbar is used by the SI Editor to assist the user in preparing and editing specifications by allowing quick access to commonly used tagging commands. If you place your mouse pointer over any toolbar button, you will see a tool tip telling you the command associated with that button. Buttons. The SI Editor also provides several tools such as the Navigator, Reference Wizard, and Submittal Wizard to simplify the editing process.
The Editor uses a tagging system for defining elements of information. JobsA group of projects. are created from Master specifications -- called Sections -- that already contain the tagging mark-up and display color coding for certain elements.
While editing, you can turn on or off the view capability for various elements such as TagsSpecsIntact Tags are used to define key elements and attributes used control content and format as well as run processes and generate reports . These tags consist of an opening and closing tag. A tag -- either opening or closing, is used to mark the start or end of an element. Most tags consist of a beginning-tag <SEC> and ending tag </SEC>, but can also contain some empty-element tags such as <Page />. Tags are, Notes , RevisionsThe Revisions command reveals or conceals Revisions that are tagged in the text. Text to be added is identified with underscoring and the Add Tags, <ADD> and </ADD> . Whereas text to be deleted, or Redlined, is identified with overstriking and the Delete Tags, <DEL> and </DEL>., and measurements (Metric Units and English Units ). When using the Editor's menu File > Print Draft command, any elements displayed on your screen will be printed as well. A TailoringTagged elements <TAI> </TAI> inserted by the Master Specification writer to indicate specific elements within a specification in order to include or exclude various requirements either by agency or product, thereby pre-editing a guide specification to remove requirements that do not exist in the project and simplifying customization. (pre-editing) feature assists in editing Sections that have been marked with Tailoring tags for specific job requirements.
Right-click Menus
The right mouse Button provides a shortcut to many commands. To use this feature, Right-clickTo press the right button of a mouse and release it to open a menu the mouse Button and select a command from the menu displayed. The Right-click menu options available will vary based on the functions in progress at the time.
Throughout the Help, Right-click Menu options are indicated by the icon.
Status Bar
Located at the bottom of the Editor's screen and provides the following information:
- The cursor's location within the tagging can be found in the center. In the example above, the cursor is located in a set of Title (TTL) tags, of a SubpartThe levels below a Part are referred to as Subparts. These Subpart levels are then broken down into and referenced as Articles, Paragraphs and Subparagraphs, although the share the same Subpart <SPT> Tag. (SPT) tag, within a PART (PRT) and SectionA set of files within the Division of a Master or Job that covers specific aspects of construction. (SEC) tags. To see a graphic representation of tag "nesting" see the diagram under 'Tagging Structure Overview' or you can learn more about the Section structure under 'Section Format.'
- To the right of the tag location you can see the cursor's page, line and character position.
- At the far right you can view the time, as well as Caps Lock (CAPS), Num lock (NUM), and Insert (OVR) key indicators. When active the indicators appear in Bold.
On-screen assistance is always accessible from the menu Help > SpecsIntact Editor Help, pressing the Help Button or by pressing the F1 key to view context-sensitive Help.
Graphics within specifications are not currently supported.
