Automatic Paragraph Numbering

 

 

Automatic Paragraph Numbering will generate the paragraph numbers automatically and provide the capability to use two types of paragraph numbering schemes, Numeric and Alphanumeric.  

 

For backward compatibility, SpecsIntact will continue to support Jobs and MastersA group of standard Agency (Master) Guide Specifications used in the preparation of a Job. that use the Traditional Numbering as well as allow them to be converted to the new automatically numbered format while providing the capability to switch between both numbering Schemes.

Regardless of whether Numeric or Alphanumeric Paragraph Numbering is used, the Title for Parts are handled differently than the Articles, Paragraphs, and Subparagraphs.  The Titles for Parts are enclosed within TTL tagsSpecsIntact Tags are used to define key elements and attributes used control content and format as well as run processes and generate reports . These tags consist of an opening and closing tag. A tag -- either opening or closing, is used to mark the start or end of an element. Most tags consist of a beginning-tag <SEC> and ending tag </SEC>, but can also contain some empty-element tags such as <Page />. Tags are and begin with the word PARTAll sections are divided into three parts: General, Products, and Execution. followed by the part number, three spaces and the Title, whereas for Articles, Paragraphs and Subparagraphs only contain the Title.  The automatically generated subpart number and three spaces will appear between the SPT tag and the TTL tag.

Whether you are exchanging or collaborating projects, make sure everyone is using SpecsIntact v4.4.2 or newer since older versions of SpecsIntact will not support Automatically Numbered Sections.

Using this Feature

How do I know when a Section is using the Automatic Paragraph Numbering or the Traditional Numbering?

There are two ways to tell if a Section is using Automatic Numbering.  First, you can look to see if the Section contains the Meta Data tag located at the top of each Section following the SEC tag, and the Meta Data tag for the Unified Submittal Format.

Another easy way to tell when a Section is using the Automatic Paragraph Numbering is to turn the Tags View on by selecting the Button located on the SI Editor's ToolbarToolbars assists the user in preparing and editing specifications by allowing quick access to commonly used commands. If you place your mouse pointer over any toolbar button, you will see a tool tip telling you the command associated with that button..  Once the tags are visible, locate the first SPT tag, if the Subpart number is located to the left of the TTL tag, then the Section is using Automatic Paragraph Numbering.  With the Traditional Numbering, the Subpart numbers will always appear within the Title tags along with three spaces and the Title.
