By default the SpecsIntact Explorer will automatically download and restoreA process used to bring back a backed-up Job, Master, or Supplemental Reference List from the specified location (Drive or other device) to the SpecsIntact system. the Unified Facilities Guide Specifications (UFGS) Master.  This will occur when no Master is connected or an older version of the UFGS is detected.  Follow the prompts to download and restore the UFGS Master.

 

In the even a manual download must be initiated, the UFGS Master may be downloaded from the DoD Whole Building Design Guide (WBDG) or some limited Local MastersA group of standard Agency (Master) Guide Specifications used in the preparation of a Job. at the SpecsIntact Website.

Manual Download

In the event a manual download must be initiated, the UFGS Master may be downloaded from the DoD Whole Building Design Guide (WBDG) or Local Masters at the SpecsIntact Website.  After you have downloaded the Master, you can quickly add it to SpecsIntact by using the SI Explorer's File menu, Backup and Restore command and choosing the Restore tab.  Follow steps 1 - 6 below and then follow the Restore Instructions.

To Download full Masters In SpecsIntact backup format, enabling quicker integration into the SI Explorer:

  1. Before downloading any Master, create a destination folder to receive it.  (e.g. C:\SI Downloads)

  2. From our Masters page, under Downloads, select the UFGS Master link, this will direct you to the WBDG Website

  1. Within the table, locate the UFGS Master and choose the Zip link beside it to download the entire UFGS Master

  2. In the Save As dialog box, browse to the folder you created in step #1 above and select Save

(If your browser does not allow to Save As, once the download is complete, check the Downloads folder)

  1. When the download is complete, open the SI Explorer

  2. From the File menu, select BackupA process used to backup a Job, Master, Supplemental Reference List or Templates from the specified location (Drive or other device) and Restore or Right-clickTo press the right button of a mouse and release it to open a menu and choose Backup and Restore, then select the Restore Tab.

  3. Under Restore From, locate the drive, folder, and zip file you just downloaded.

  4. When you select the Masters zip (example:  UFGS_M.zip) file, the information about the Master will populate on the right side of the screen.

  5. By default, Overwrite Existing will be selected.

  6. Select OK

 

Icon Indicating Important Information to NoteThe Master will be unzipped to your default Working Directory and displayed in the left pane of the SI Explorer underneath the Masters Folder.

To Download an individual DivisionEach Master is made up of Divisions containing groups of Sections that cover specific construction areas. Division Names and Titles are in accordance with CSI MasterFormat™. or SectionA set of files within the Division of a Master or Job that covers specific aspects of construction. for use in SpecsIntact, do the following:S

  1. Before downloading any Master, Division or Section create a destination folder to receive it.  (e.g. C:\SI Downloads)

  2. From our Masters page, select the UFGS Link, this will direct you to the WBDG Website

  3. Download individual Divisions or Sections you want, by clicking the ZIP link beside it

  1. In the Save As dialog box,  browse to the folder you created in step #1 above and select Save

  2. When the download is complete, close your browser and locate the folder containing the Master .zip file(s) you just downloaded

  3. Double-clickIs a familiar mouse function in Windows applications Executes the function associated with that object, such as such as opening a file. the .zip file to extract the Master Divisions or Sections and close the folder

  4. Open SpecsIntact, and from the SI Explorer, open the Create New Master dialog box by either clicking the Masters Button on the ToolbarToolbars assists the user in preparing and editing specifications by allowing quick access to commonly used commands. If you place your mouse pointer over any toolbar button, you will see a tool tip telling you the command associated with that button. or by using the File > New > Master menu option

  5. Complete the information on the General Tab and click OK.

  6. In the Add Sections dialog box, click the Browse Tab and browse to the folder containing the downloaded Master Sections that you extracted from the zip file in step #6 above (you should see them listed in the Sections area in the bottom left corner of the dialog box).

  7. Choose the Select All Button, then select the Add Sections Button.  All of the Sections will be added to the new Master you created and you will see them listed in the right Contents pane of the dialog box.

  8. Select OK and you will see the new Master listed in the left pane of the SI Explorer, with the Sections it contains listed in the right pane.
