This command can be executed from the SI Editor's Tools Menu.
Opens the Options dialog box, from which you can adjust various settings that affect the Editor.
When this box is checked, the Editor automatically copies any open files (if they have been changed) to a temporary file. You can specify how often you want the save to occur (every ten minutes is the default value). The temporary file is deleted when the corresponding file is saved and closed through the Editor.
This feature can be important in the event of a power outage or system crash, since the temporary file will not be deleted. A subsequent attempt to open an affected file will provide you with the options to load either the original file or the temporary file containing any changes that occurred prior to the last automatic backup before the failure.
When this box is checked, the Editor will validate the document requirements before the file is saved. The validation includes verification that the tagging is correct and that you have followed the correct Section Format. Errors indicated should be corrected prior to printing any reports.
If the document fails validation, this function creates a validation log to assist you in correcting the errors that caused the failure. A dialog box will allow you to open the Validation Log. From the log, double-click an error and the Editor will bring up the Section with the cursor positioned on the beginning Subpart tag that contains the error. If the Section file is not currently open, the Editor opens it. Once the error is corrected, click the Window menu, and choose the Validate Log in the Open Sections area of the menu to return to the Validate Log. Repeat the process with the each error until all the errors are corrected, and then save the Section.
By selecting this option, SpecsIntact will save the Windows user name of the last person to edit a Section. The name will be displayed in the SI Explorer when you choose the View > Columns > Last Edited by option.
By default, this feature disables Microsoft Windows write buffering/caching when saving files. When the SI Editor attempts to save a file, it relies on some underlying Windows functions to respond. When the functions are not returned due to a server issues, then Windows does not return the error back to the SI Editor so it cannot respond. This is caused by events on the Network, and is typically addressed by the Network Administrator. "Write Caching" is a directory setting through the network that means that when you select save, Microsoft does not actually write the file back to the server until later, it holds it in memory. By disabling this feature, the files are saved and will not be lost in the event of a network anomaly
When this command is checked, the Editor strips most tags that contain only white space (represented by tabs and spaces) when you save the file. Four tags are not affected by this option: ADD, DEL, CHG, and HL1. Blank lines will be removed only if you have also checked the next option -- Remove Blank Lines Inside Empty Tags
This option helps prevent empty Subparts, which can cause problems with automatic paragraph renumbering. Using this option is highly recommended.
This command must be used in conjunction with the Remove Blank Tags on Save. It will enable the Editor to remove any blank lines (represented by carriage returns) contained inside blank tags.
This option is not recommended unless you understand the impact it will have on the formatting of your Section, since you may inadvertently delete blank lines you have used to separate the various elements of the Section.
Use the Tailoring Options drop-down list to choose how you want the Editor to handle any hidden Tailoring Options.
When a Section with hidden Tailoring Options is closed, the Options are retained in the Section.
When preparing a new Section, this feature is very useful for testing the Tailoring Options.
When a Section with hidden Tailoring Options is closed, the Editor displays a warning message before deleting the Options and saving the Section without them, allowing you to cancel the action. If the Job or Master is setup to 'Use Revisions,' the hidden Tailoring Options would then be redlined.
It is recommended that you use this option to prevent you from permanently deleting hidden Options.
If the Job or Master is setup to use Revisions, the hidden Tailoring Options will be redlined. When Tailoring Options are removed , they are not redlined, even if you are editing with Revisions.
When a Section with hidden Tailoring Options is closed, the Options are permanently removed from the Section without the warning box or the ability to cancel the action.
For the Revisions to appear when hiding Tailoring Options from within the SI Editor, you must first save and close the Section. When the Section is re-opened, the redlined Tailoring Options will be visible.
The OK Button will execute and save selections made and make them part of your Job's properties.
The Cancel Button will close the dialog box without recording any selections or changes entered.
The Help Button will open the Help Topic for this dialog box
